Teacher FAQs
We've addressed some of the more common questions below that have been coming through in the last couple of days. Please check below, and if your question isn't answered please email r.holmes@auckland.ac.nz and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
What do we do on Wednesday 6 July?
Simply go to www.incrediblescience.co.nz at the scheduled times, and sit back and enjoy the shows. There is no log-in required - anyone, anywhere can access the site.
How long are the shows, and are they being recorded?
Each show is 30-40 minutes long. They are all being recorded, but they won't be available online for several weeks after Virtual Incredible Science has ended, unless we have technical difficulties with the live broadcast (see question below).
What happens if the live connection crashes?
We are confident that our web technicians and camera crew are using technology that will meet our audience's demands, but there is always a chance that something will go wrong on the day. All shows are being recorded and will be loaded to the website as soon as possible, should the worst happen.
Do we have to watch all of the shows?
Not at all! We'd love you to, but understand that you must fit Virtual Incredible Science in with the curriculum and existing classroom plans.
Can we project the shows onto a big screen?
Yes. An interactive whiteboard would be perfect for this.
What's the deal with the online activities?
The online activities will be available on Tuesday 5th, Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th July. Your students can access them from home or in class, depending on the time you have available. Students will enjoy these activities most working on them individually or in small groups.
Do we use the lesson plans in the resource kit in conjunction with the online activities?
The lesson plans in the resource kits do not relate to the online activities. We recommend you reserve time on Wednesday 6 July to watch the shows, as these will only be screened on that day. The other online activities can be accessed over the three days. The lesson plans can be used at a time that is convenient for your class - it would be great if you worked on them during Virtual Incredible Science, but it isn't compulsory.
